Niche Competitive Advantage

What is a Niche? In the Animal World a Niche is "the role an organism or population plays within its community or ecosystem." In the Business World we have Niche Marketing, this is where a company will concentrate all it's effort in a limited or segment of the Market. Companies use Niche Marketing to be competitive against the big Corporations, and the product is their core product.
Lets look at some Companies that have made it big while providing Niche Marketing; one of the ones that I use all the time is Autozone

What Autozone did for After Market Service in the Automotive World was to open up automotive repair to the Average Person at a affordable price. At Autozone you can get all your automotive needs at one store, and that is all that Autozone deals in. Their are many that say that Autozone products are cheap! Could this be because they are cheap due to the high volumes that Autozone can sell through their stores, which allows for a lower price for their customer? Plus Autozone gives a Lifetime Warranty on most of their parts.

Lets look at another company that made it big being a Niche Supplier, and that would be Domino's Pizza; here is a company that sells pizza only (a niche in itself), but Domino to it's Niche Marketing to the extreme by selling pizza by home delivery or to go only. This put them with in a Niche by itself, now they have spread all over the United States, by providing a limited service to a limited customer base.
