Headlines

What are headlines? Are they just Eye Catchers or are they the subject of the item/story? It should be the first thing that is read, that catches the eye, that gets the readers attention. Some companies do this in various ways, and do it well they do. But for the most part the Headliner is usually something that is provocative in nature, could this be because sex sells? If you ask me I would say yes, but then I am a Red Blooded American Male. But does it sell for women? Did you know that the most sexual adds are in women magazines? Just take a look at Cosmopolitan and you will have your answer, its almost the bible on what and when to do what for women.

So by looking at the picture of the cover of a Cosmopolitan, what would be a Headliner? Naughty Sex? How to Keep your guy total Turned on? The Sexiest Thing To Do after Sex? And so on, as you can see Sex Sells and Advertisers no this.
But what if you could not use Sex in Advertising what would be the outcome of the Advertising World? I bet there would be less Flash and more substance, and what I mean is there would be more about what is being sold to gain the attention of the consumer.

Lets take Popular Mechanic here is a magazine that shows the product or what they are trying to get across, and does not rely on Sex to sell. But who looks at this? It is a select niche, and not the General Public. There fore this magazine does not have to try and gain the attention of readers by using T&A, but does sell on it outstanding articles and presentations.
