Does Advertising play a Role in our Social Realms? Most people say yes, and I seem to believe this to be true also. Have you ever watched or heard an advertising for a product or service and then want to acquire that product or service? If the answer is yes they you where influenced by advertising. And do you remember the commercials from the past for cigarettes? They use to be all over the TVs now that has been outlawed has it help on not getting new people addictive to cigarettes?

It doesnt seem like the after effects of the ban on cigarrette comercials are very drastic, but i wonder how many more children would have become addicted if the commercials were not banned. i started when i was a lot younger than i should have but my influence was not from tv but rather my family. everyone in my family were smokers so i was somewhat doomed from the start. this is why i cannot see that commercials being banned have made a tremendous effect because there are to many more powerful influences in childrens lives that cause the same effect.
Wow, brittenl, everyone in your family smoked? I grew up in a smoking family, but I am the only one who chose not to smoke. It really is about choices people make. My own mother smokes two packs a day and she is dying of lung cancer that metastasized to her brain with no symptoms until it was terminal. She was mad because I didn't bring her cigarettes when I followed the ambulance to the E.R. today because she had two breakthrough seizures even though she takes 400mg of Dilantin daily. She had to wait until I got her home to smoke. I only hope that my adult son makes the choice to quit smoking before it's too late (he was raised in a non-smoking household). *stepping off soapbox* Vr, smokers' daughter and mom
