Societal Marketing Orientation

What is "Societal Marketing Orientation" you ask, if you look around you might find something like this http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Societal_marketing that will give you some what of a Text Book definition. But in my words "Societal Marketing Orientation" is where organizations not only make things that they can sell that there customers like and need, but they strive to what is right for humanity and the world.

So do we have any companies like that it today's world of Big Business and seemingly endless corrupt Companies as displayed in countless news broadcast? The Government does have a role in bringing Companies into a world where Societal Marketing is practiced everyday, and how is this done? When Governments pass regulations and laws that govern the way Companies operate, then this will force Companies to get on board. Don't believe? Here are a few example of Government influence at work:

-Regulations on Auto Manufactures to produce Automobile that have a Higher Level of Fuel Economy and Exhaust Control.http://energy.senate.gov/public/_files/RL342941.pdf

-There are numerous regulations on Environmental Waste, that force Companies to be more ECO Friendly.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_Environmental_Protection_Agency

-Regulations in Discrimination, Labor Rates, Safety in the work place have also pushed Companies to a more Society Friendly Environment. http://www.dol.gov/compliance/

So have these regulations hurt or helped the people as a whole? In most instances regulations have help control, what is done ans said by big business; to ensure that humanity best interest is up-held as it should be, and not the bottom line.
